Ocient is a hyperscale data solutions company headquartered in Chicago, IL, enabling organizations to analyze trillions to quadrillions of data records in seconds. Over the past five years, Ocient has built a SQL compliant data warehouse for Petabyte and beyond datasets that is 10x to 50x times faster than competitive OLAP databases.

Position Overview

Ocient is rapidly expanding and seeking a highly skilled Senior Product Manager to lead our energy and power efficiency initiatives. We are dedicated to helping customers reduce and rebalance their data center power usage, and our solutions already reduce power consumption for large-scale, always-on analytics by up to 90%. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of energy-efficient data analytics in a growing industry.

In this role, you will lead the strategic direction and execution of energy optimization use cases for our platform. You will take ownership of understanding the components that influence energy consumption, from processors and storage to database and application-layer integrations. Your contributions will directly impact Ocient’s strategic roadmap as you research and define the requirements for reducing energy use across our solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish relationships with each of the major & key players in data center energy across energy providers, data center operators, semiconductor manufacturers, server vendors, system & foundational software vendors, application software vendors, enterprise customers, hyperscaler’s, and government agencies.
  • Establish the founding group and then help establish the industry wide group of organizations in an industries-wide consortium to continually improve data center energy efficiency.
  • Help set up the approach, structure, and resources in the consortium for enterprise IT to define standard measures & benchmarks for energy use & efficiency, technical interfaces between different industries related to energy use, and market adoption of energy efficiency standards.
  • Develop and manage a process for Ocient and its customers to certify systems for carbon credits.  
  • Develop and communicate an ongoing understanding of the data center energy market and how it will affect Ocient and our customers
  • Assist marketing in crafting messages that impact our customers regarding power.  
  • Drive the product strategy for energy and power efficiency, ensuring that Ocient continues to push boundaries in energy optimization.
  • Explore and integrate knowledge of financial incentives, energy credits, and energy costs that impact both Ocient and our customers.
  • Collaborate closely with product architects, engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate technical needs into actionable product features.
  • Serve as a thought leader within the organization and with external stakeholders, including analysts, customers, and prospects, advocating for energy-efficient solutions.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies related to energy management, positioning Ocient as a market leader in this space.
  • Consult sales and Ocient leadership on analytics solutions and opportunities in the energy industry, including utilities, renewables, and government.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. An MBA is a plus.
  • A deep understanding of the technical components that drive energy consumption in large-scale computing environments.
  • Experience in product management, preferably within energy, power efficiency, or related sectors in the software or technology industry.
  • A strong background in collaborating with engineering, technical teams, and business leaders to define and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Knowledge of energy-related financial incentives, credits, and regulations is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to influence internal stakeholders and external customers alike.
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience communicating with both technical and business audiences.
  • Experience and success in launching and delivering new products/services into the market is a plus.
  • Relationships and expertise in each IT industry related to data center energy use.
